The Advantages of Modern Studio Photography

Studio Photography is NOT what you Remember

When you hear the words studio photography, I know what you’re thinking! You’re thinking of those cheesy glamor shots with bedazzled denim and feather boas aren’t you?! I totally get it, that is what I grew up knowing and seeing. Let’s discuss the concerns you might have when it comes to studio photographs. Here are some statements I have heard from friends and family:

+Studio sessions are stiff and awkward

+Studio photography is cheesy

+Family photos in a studio will look too formal and stiff

+Family photos will look all the same

These statements may have some truth about them when it comes to some studio photography or photos we’ve seen in the past. However, this is not how I approach my photo sessions in both the lighting I create along with the way I interact with you and your family to produce portraits full of character and connection.

Insights About my Family Photography Sessions

Portraits Full of Personality

When you put a person in front of a blank background and strip away all distraction that an outdoor setting might have, you are left with a portrait that is full of personality and character. I try really hard to draw out real emotion and mannerisms out of my subjects. That means no cheesy smiles or awkward posing. So although I use simple backgrounds and no props, It’s YOU that makes the portrait unique and special.

I Create Soft Light

I do use artificial light when photographing in the studio. This allows me to make consistent light any time of day and no matter the weather. Instead of flashy, harsh light, the light I create is soft; almost like a large window, complimenting skin and making you look your best. Honestly, if you didn’t know, I think you might have a hard time telling that I even use artificial light!

Real Connections

Although I photograph in a studio, that doesn’t mean that I photograph you in a stiff or stuffy way. I still give you and your children prompts and suggest you interact with each other. This results in real moments and real connections between family members, but it’s better because the photographs I make are all about you!
