Is Newborn Photography Safe?

As new parents, you’ll want to hire a newborn photographer to save every beautiful memory! But is newborn photography safe? This is a very important question and one I take seriously. Let me tell you a little bit about what I do and the precautions I take to care for your baby while I am photographing them.

Making Sure your Baby Is Safe

I will never pose your baby in a forced or unnatural position that would be potentially uncomfortable or dangerous for them. My style of newborn photography is referred to as “baby-led,” meaning that I photograph your baby how they naturally sleep and gently adjust them into flattering angles and poses. You won’t find any “froggy pose” or “taco pose” in my studio.

I will be maneuvering your baby throughout the entire session. I need to be able to pose your baby and will do so with extreme care and caution, but it is necessary for me to move and adjust your baby to create beautiful images for you. I also make sure that you as the parent are right there beside the bed “spotting” your baby and see everything that I am doing.

Is Flash Photography Safe for Babies?

There have been rumors online about flash photography being harmful for a baby’s eyes. Those rumors and allegations have since been found false. In my studio I use very diffused light that is actually pointed away from your baby and bounces back onto them. Most parents and children actually forget about the flash and don’t notice it after being in the studio for a while.

There is absolutely no way I or other photographs would continue using flash for photographing newborns if it was harmful or could cause permanent damage.

The only side effects of scheduling a newborn photography session is having precious heirlooms to look back on for years to come!
